Notes for Commissioners
- Download a copy here
- Young Leaders are our future Leaders and Commissioners. It is very important that they are supported at every stage. Ideally you should appoint a Young Leader Leader at Division or District level, but if a warranted or pre-warrant leader is not available, a coordinator can be appointed. The person appointed must be supported and trained to fulfil the role. Help with this is available through the County Young Leader Adviser.
- THE YOUNG LEADER LEADER/COORDINATOR
- The Division Commissioner is responsible for appointing a Young Leader Leader/Coordinator at a level appropriate for the area. Some areas may prefer to have a Senior Section Leader working with a Senior Section group including Rangers, Young Leaders and other Senior Section members such as Junior Council members or those working towards their Queen's Guide Award.
- The Young Leader Leader/Coordinator should be invited to attend Division / District meetings. Please ensure that she has access to a copy of 'Guiding' magazine, particularly if she does not already perform another role in Guiding.
- If the Young Leader Leader/Coordinator is new to the Senior Section, she must complete Module 1 of the Leadership Qualification for the Senior Section. Assistance with this can be found on the Girlguiding Hampshire west web-site.
- Note: In areas with no Young Leader Coordinator, it is the responsibility of the Division Commissioner to ensure that Young Leaders are adequately supported.
- YOUNG LEADER LEADER/COORDINATOR EXPENSES
- Young Leader Leader/Coordinator's expenses should be claimed from Division or District funds according to her appointment. These are likely to include telephone, travel, postage, photocopying and training materials. Please be aware that Young Leader groups often meet more infrequently than other Units and therefore the Young Leader Leader/Coordinator may often need to photocopy and post information to her girls. Please help your Young Leader Leader/Coordinator by providing the financial support to ensure that Young Leaders receive information promptly.
- PLACING A YOUNG LEADER IN A UNIT
- The District Commissioner is responsible for placing a Young Leader in a Unit and should do this in consultation with the Young Leader Leader/Coordinator.
- It is recommended that a single Unit has up to two Young Leaders, however it is acceptable to have more if the Unit is large enough and there is sufficient leadership opportunity for all Young Leaders.
- The Young Leader Leader/Coordinator will hold records of the Young Leaders in her area. The Young Leader Leader/Coordinator will advise the District Commissioner when a Young Leader reaches age 16. The District Commissioner must meet the Young Leader and ensure that her GO records are amended, a CRB check is completed and that the Young Leader wishes to start the Adult Leadership Scheme, she receives the 'Pink Sheets' and is assigned a mentor (usually her Young Leader Leader/Coordinator).
